‘STOP USING’: Major recall of 42,500 garden tools for kids sold at Canadian Tire triggers warning from Health Canada

Health Canada warns Canadian tire buyers of a major recall of children’s gardening tools.

The recall includes 42,500 units of various Yardworks Assist Kids Garden Tools. Canadian Tire’s affected product number is 059-7144 and the recall covers all units purchased between 2019 and 2021. The Yardworks Kids Garden Tools have a 5-digit manufacturing date code. All codes that end in 19, 20, or 21 are affected by this recall, Health Canada said.

“Tests conducted by the Canadian Tire Corporation of Canada have shown that the accessible surface coating and applied surface coating components of the garden tools contain barium, which exceeds the limit allowed by Canadian toy regulations,” the recall warning to identify the ” Danger”.

Excessive amounts of barium can be toxic and cause nausea and vomiting, as well as more serious symptoms, Health Canada said.

However, as of March 24, the company had not received any reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.

The affected products were sold from January 2019 to March 2021.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products and return them to a Canadian Tire store for a full refund,” said Health Canada.
